Virginia Cooperative Extension Focuses on Water Quality Most Virginians are accustomed to a safe and abundant water supply. But water quality issues cannot be ignored. Virginians who get their drinking water from private wells must monitor its quality. Increased urbanization has led to problems with stormwater runoff. The Chesapeake Bay still suffers from poor water quality – even after years of cleanup effort.
The Virginia Household Water Quality Program addresses one problem by helping well owners manage their water supplies. Erin James, BSE Extension Associate, is the program coordinator.
Dr. David Sample, BSE Associate Professor, is demonstrating how new types of porous paving materials can dramatically reduce stormwater runoff, an issue in urban areas.
