Education Abroad

Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) students can participate in a variety of education abroad activities through the Virginia Tech Education Abroad Office and through the BSE department.

Education Abroad for Biological Systems Engineering in Europe

Would you like to study abroad in Ireland, Italy, or Spain?  Virginia Tech is the lead U.S. institution for an education abroad program for biological systems engineering students to study one or two semesters in Europe.  Our European partners are:

  • Ireland - University College Dublin (UCD)
  • Italy - University of Bari (UniBar)
  • Spain - Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM)

Through a project funded by the European Union and the U.S. Department of Education, “Transatlantic Biosystems Engineering Curriculum and Mobility (TABE.NET),” the BSE department has developed strong relationships with partner universities in Ireland, Italy, and Spain. While the funded portion of the project has been completed, our partner institutions in Europe are still good options to consider for study abroad. Information about the project and the partner universities is available at http://www.ucd.ie/tabe; information specifically about the student exchange is available at http://www.ucd.ie/tabe/student.html. If you are interested in applying to study at one of the partner institutions or would like more information, please contact Mary Leigh Wolfe.
