Every Spring the entire BSE community – undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, senior design sponsors, friends, and family – joins together to celebrate the many and varied accomplishments of our department during the previous academic year. This year, our celebration included final Senior Design presentations, dinner, and awards in the Owens Hall Banquet Room.

BSE graduate student Hannah Patton was selected as the College of Engineering’s Masters Student of the Year for 2019. Her thesis research focuses on describing motivations for “water scavenging” in Appalachia and she is mentored by BSE Associate Professor Leigh-Anne Krometis and Virginia Tech Mining and Minerals Engineering Associate Professor Emily Sarver.

Dr. Venkat Sridhar, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Systems Engineering has been awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Specialist grant through the U. S. Department of State and the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) to collaborate with professional counterparts on research, capacity building and outreach activities in India.
