My primary study focus will be on the general topic of floodplains with a concentration on water exchange and sediment deposition. This work will include 2-D modeling in HEC-RAS, coding/using an advection-diffusion sediment transport model, spatial analysis using some combination of ArcGIS, MATLAB, and Delft-3D. I will also work on, vegetation interactions and micro-plastic transport and deposition in rivers and floodplains.
As a graduate research assistant in hydro-morphodyanamics research group of BUET till 2017, I have worked in several multinational and leading national research projects focused on climate change, river and estuarine hydrodynamics, morpho-dynamics, and coastal processes. Major projects were (1) Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (2) Deltas Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation (3) Morphological processes under Climate Changes, Sea Level Rise and Anthropogenic Intervention in the Coastal Zone (4) Feasibility Study for the Construction of a Cantonment along the bank of a river. In these projects, I applied Hec-Ras and different modules of Delft 3D [(a) Flow model to study hydrodynamics and fluvio-tidal flooding
(b) Morphology model to study morpho-dynamics (c) Salinity model to study salinity intrusion (d) Delft Dashboard to study the cyclone generated storm surge (e) Water quality to study oil spill incident in the estuary] to study different processes along the Bangladesh coast. Besides, I applied combination of the modules to study some specific processes, for example, morpho-dynamic response of estuaries during passage of cyclone generated storm surge, water logging, controlled flooding inside embanked region etc. I presented my research findings at a conference in Kyoto, Japan. I was invited by South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Agricultural Center and Bangladesh government 100 years' delta plan prefeasibility study to share my research knowledge on Bangladesh coast.
