Leah Bianchini

Leah Bianchini is from Leesburg, Virginia, majoring in Biological Systems Engineering with a focus in Environmental Health and a minor in Green Engineering. After graduating, she hopes to continue her education by pursuing Masters in both Biological Systems Engineering and Business Administration to support her dream of starting her own environmental technology business.  

During the summer of 2025, Leah continued her education with an internship at MITRE, a federally funded research and development corporation where she used systems engineering and machine learning to build a tool that predicts power outages before they occur to support at-risk communities.  

At Virginia Tech, Leah has been a research assistant with Dr. Natasha Bell in her Ecological Engineering Lab where Leah has gotten to support and lead various clean water focused research projects. She is actively involved in the Virginia Tech chapter of the American Society of Biological Systems Engineers (ASABE) and will is currently serving the chapter as the Vice President. Leah is also involved in the Virginia Tech Women’s Center AWARE program, where she gets to design and facilitate women focused and lead lessons for an excellent group of girls at Blacksburg Middle School.  

Outside of school, Leah loves exploring the outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and continuing to learn about our world through books, documentaries, and talking to as many people as possible. She is excited to continue to share her passion of Biological Systems Engineering to the next generation through her ambassadorship because together, we can change the world.
