Sophia Bochis

Sophia Bochis is a junior BSE ambassador from Cedar Grove, New Jersey. She is passionate about environmental protection and conservation, so she is proudly pursuing the environmental health concentration of BSE. She is also completing a minor in Green Engineering, where she is learning sustainable applications to her engineering knowledge.

During the summer of 2025, Sophia worked at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services as an Environmental Intern, where she was exposed to the world of environmental consulting. She supported various field activities including ground water sampling for PFAS contamination, construction oversight of demolition projects, and classifying soil from drilling borings. From these experiences, she solidified her interest in biological systems engineering and is applying her hands-on skills to her degree.

At Virginia Tech, Sophia is a member of various professional societies including the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE). She is excited to serve as a BSE ambassador, furthering her community engagement at VT and expanding the BSE program.

Sophia is very appreciative of the amazing BSE faculty and staff, along with the endless learning opportunities this department provides. She strongly cares about enlightening prospective students about the BSE program and cannot wait for this school year!
